Mixed Media Dimensional Art
Current Work
My mixed media art is a representation of the nuts and bolts of the creative process expressed through assemblage of recycled, repurposed metals, and varying other found objects. The process of connecting objects that don’t necessarily belong together is one of the most gratifying parts of my work, and may have been inspired by my years as a Psychotherapist working with trauma survivors. The process of helping them find new meanings and making new connections in their experiences created opportunities for healing and change .
Much of my work often reflects images from the Victorian Era, and the theme of “looking back.” I love the early locomotives, telephones, and clothes, especially the hats worn during that time. And, I also found myself exploring the theme of looking back from the perspective of aging, and how to move forward with strength and hopefulness, bringing forth those parts that truly define us.
Although I still love the copper and rusted metals that connect the old to the new, and the past to the present, I have recently been going through a creative transformation by exploring a lighter more free flowing creative process. I began using more acrylic paint, alcohol ink, collage, and original image transfers in my paintings.
In my current Dragonfly Series, I chose to focus on the various symbolic meanings of dragonflies. Recognized by many cultures throughout the world as spiritual protectors, messengers, and more, I found them an inspiring subject to further explore in my new, evolving form of artistic expression.
